We are the University of Bristol Madrigal Ensemble (affectionately known as MADS). Founded in 1983, we are a 16-piece choir (with a conductor) who sing unaccompanied choral music of all styles in Bristol and beyond. We sing in both concerts and at visiting choir services at major churches and cathedrals such as Westminster Abbey and Wells Cathedral.
Many members of the choir also perform with prestigious groups such as The National Youth Choir of Great Britain, Bristol Cathedral Choir, Clifton Cathedral Choir, and the Fitzhardinge Consort, among many others.
As well as being an ensemble, we are also one big social group! We have regular socials after rehearsals and at weekends at pubs, clubs, and the races as well as concerts, dinners, and formals!
One highlight of the MADS year is the annual Cornwall tour. Usually in June, the whole choir spends a week on the Cornish coast, rehearsing and performing in local churches as well as going to the beach and just generally having an amazing time!
